Case study:

The Ask

How do you showcase art and the gallery it sits in equally?

West Chelsea Contemporary (WCC) was the re-imagining of a gallery from more traditional artists to the likes of Mr. Brainwash, Banksey, and Kaws. We needed a brand that could support the edge and excitement of street art, while being true to the “West Chelsea” name.

The Work

We created a brand that could flex to frame the versatility of any masterpiece

Street art breaks the rules and we built an art brand that broke outside of of the “frame”.

When we designed the logo mark of the WCC letters, we liked the font direction so much that it only made sense to turn it into a full font for the brand. West Chelsea Black became a font that could be used throughout the gallery adding a subtle brand experience to even the placards next to every piece.

A blank canvas to promote any artpiece

With it’s visible flagship location in downtown Austin, TX we had to ensure the rebrand was as visible on the outside as it was on the inside.

Every exhibition was designed to catch eyes on social media as well as translate to beautiful outside signage.

The Results

We created art to promote art.

It’s hard to think of a branding challenge more scary than branding an art gallery. When the product is art, we needed to make a brand that was as good as the art on the walls. Through our work, we created the foundation of a brand that is now a fixture in the fast-growing Austin art community.
